Although RIM began discussions with China Mobile about launching a Blackberry service, one of the other two major mobile service providers "Chine Unicom" (CHU) has launched its own Redberry push email service.

The name "Redberry" refers to the China's national color "red" and RIM's populair push email service ("~berry"). Will Redberry become a local success on China's mainland market?

I think it very well could be. Everyone loves a hometown success. Also, China Unicom already has a userbase for other wireless services. I know BlackBerry's are fairly successful in Hong Kong if I recall properly.

I find it sad that China Unicom has to use such a similar name to attract attention. It's like when those iPod ripoffs hit the market.
